Forest Certification

IForUT are committed to responsible Forest Management and are associated to both FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®), and PEFC™ (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).

IForUT first certified its forests against the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) standard in 2006 and secured dual forest certification to both FSC® and PEFC™ in 2023. IForUT is independently audited and accredited by Soil Association to the requirements of both FSC® and PEFC™.

This certification standard is an assurance that IForUT’s forest management systems and procedures are managed against environmental, social and economic benchmarks. Through careful planning IForUT can classify its land holding into management types to either maximise economic output or habitat biodiversity. All operational activity within IForUT’s forests is planned to mitigate environmental impacts. These are the management approaches which lie at the heart of forest certification and responsible management.

About FSC®

FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. Established in 1993 as a response to concerns over global deforestation, FSC is a pioneer forum where the global consensus on responsible forest management convenes and through democratic process effects solutions to the pressures facing the world’s forests and forest-dependent communities. FSC certification provides a credible link between responsible production and consumption of forest products, enabling consumers and businesses to make purchasing decisions that benefit people and the environment as well as providing ongoing business value. FSC is nationally represented in more than 50 countries around the world.

IForUT’s FSC Certification Registration code is SA-FM/COC -013526 and Licence Code FSC-C003194.

About PEFC™

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.
PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. Thanks to its eco-label, customers and consumers can identify products from sustainably managed forests.
PEFC is an umbrella organization. It works by endorsing national forest certification systems developed through multi-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions.
With 38 endorsed national certification systems and more than 300 million hectares of certified forests, PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system.

IForUT has been PEFC certified since 2023. IForUT’s Certificate Registration Code is SA-PEFC-FM/COC-013526 and logo licence number PEFC/17-23-080.

Forest Management Plans

Forest Management Plans

We welcome feedback from stakeholders, particularly during our decision-making process whilst undertaking forest management planning.

Our Forest Management Plans (FMPs) give a broad overview of future operations and the vision for our forests. These plans are subject to change for a variety of reasons, for example wind damage, silvicultural reasons, market conditions, etc.

Our summary management plan documents are organised on a county basis and can be viewed by navigating to your county of interest on the map of Ireland on this page. We also have an interactive public map viewer which displays our proposed felling and restocking plans. We welcome feedback on these plans. If you wish to get in touch, please contact us here.
